To study the feasibility of anaerobic filter in raw sewage and slaughter house wastewater treatment, slaughter house wastewater treatment, a batch flow pilot plant was designed. In phase one, with a detention time of 3-days and no mixing, the maximum reduction in COD was 23%. In the second phase, with a detention time of 2-days and complete mixing, glucose was added to the raw sewage, the reduction in COD and TSS were 97% and 89%. In the third run, for a detention time of 1-day and no changes in other conditions, COD and TSS reductions were 94 and 92%. In the fourth phase with a detention time of 16 hours COD and TSS of effluent were much more than the last three phases, so it was decided to stop this phase. In the fifth run, slaughter house wastewater was treated. With a detention time of 2-days, reductions in COD and TSS were 98 and 86%. In the last phase, slaughter house wastewater was added to row sewage 50-50. With a detention time of 1-day, reductions in COD and TSS were 80 and 98%.

To study the relation between hypertension and noise exposure, after the noise monitoring is weaving and spinning workshops, a especially designed questionnaire was completed and measurement were made of blood pressure, height and weight of 1801 male and female workers employed in these workshops. The results indicated that the systolic and diastolic pressure had a direct relation with age and indirect relation with the pondoral index on the other hand sex had relation with diastolic pressure. Multiple regression analysis was made to eliminate the effect of age, sex and pondoral index. The result showed that the diastolic pressure in weavers were higher than the spinners. This fact probably is due to significant different between noise levels in these workshops. (P<0.001)

Autopsy findings in 138 newborn infants which died in a university nursery during 3 years are reviewed and discussed. 80 per cent were premature and small- for- date newborns of up to 2500 g birth weight. Most of these cases showed in addition to general prematurely signs, respiratory tract diseases such as atelectasia, amniotic fluid aspiration and hyaline membrane disease. The full term infants died mostly of malformations. In post neonatal period the cause of death was almost entirely infections such as bronchopneumonia, gastroenteritis and septicemia.

The purpose of this study was to determine the seasonal changes of vital signs (body temperature, pulse rate and blood pressure) in relation to the working thermal conditions. In this study a total number of 202 permanent workers of bakeries were studied during summer and winter. The results showed the body temperature and pulse rate raised more in summer than in winter in all workers except who worked under favorable thermal conditions and are involved in light duties too (P< 0.005). No significant seasonal changes, however, was noticed concerning systolic and diastolic blood pressure. It was concluded that acclimation does not totally eliminate the seasonal changes in thermoregulatory set point. Furthermore the results indicated that the natural acclimatization is preferred over the artificial process.

A serum survey was conducted to determine the immune status of children 2 months to 6 Years old to polio virus type I, II and III related to the history of oral polio vaccination in Fashapouye (A rural area in the south of Teheran). 566 serum samples were obtained from children in 9 different villages and microneutra lization test was performed on 1;10 dilution of these sera. The study revealed that 62 per cent had received three or more doses of vaccine, 8.3 per cent two doses, 13 per cent one dose 5.6 per cent were not vaccinated. On the entire study group prevalence of immunity (serum titer 1; 10) irrespective to the history of vaccination was 90, 94 and 86 per cent for polio I, II and III respectively. The highest rate of unvaccinated and nonimmune children was in 2 to 6 months old group. The percentage of children lacking antibody to polio, I, II and III in nonvaccinated is 41, 25 and 34 percent respectively and these rates decrease in vaccinated children to reach the level of 6, 2 and 10 percent in those who have received three or more doses of vaccine. Over all results suggest that an adequate response to oral polio vaccination is observed in this rural region but an increased effort must be made for covering a higher percentage of children in all age groups especially in 2 months to one year old.

Within a period of 8 months from February to October 1986 345 Patients with suspected clinical mycotic lesions in the region of groin were referred to the Medical Mycology Department of the School of Public Health of Tehran Medical sciences University. Out of 345 Patients, 111 (9652%) Tinea cruris, 2 cases (1.74%); Tinea cruris associated with candidiasis, 1 case (0/87%);Tinea cruris associated with Erythrasma, 1 case (0/87%); Tinea crusis associated with Tinea versicolor were Observed. Agents which were isolated contained, E. flocosum 399 cases (11.11%) new species which are intermediate between T.mentagrophytes and T. rubrun 4 cases (4.94%), M.canis 3 cases (3.71%).T.violaceum 1 case (1.23%) and 1 case (1.23%) of Chrysosporirm.

With increasing urbanization and industrialization, the volume of domestic sewage and industrial effluents are growing. So, now a days we need to consider the wastewaters as a secondary water resource, without impairing the health and well being of man. Waste stabilization ponds proved a useful method of wastewater treatment for many areas of Iran, the benefits from the use of waste stabilization ponds are measurable and significant. But there are some disadvantages, as mosquito breeding. The pond filled immediately the operational level by water, and used the nozzles. The results were satisfiable.

A 46- year–old man with pulmonary tuberculosis which had treated with ant tuberculosis drugs was referred to Medical Mycology Laboratory, School of Public Health and Institute of Public Health research for coughing and bloody sputum. Chest x-ray revealed a cavern with a moveable mass in right apical Lobe. Direct examination of sputum showed wide septated dichotomous hyphae and Aspergillus fumigatus was identified in the culture of this material.
