Associations of some hematological and lymphatic diseases with sex and ABO and Rh blood groups were studied in 2579 patients, compared with a control group of 126332 individuals, by the use of clinical as well as laboratory findings, in Tehran. Highly significant increase of male/female ratio is shown in acute myelogenous leukemia, acute lymphocytic leukemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, aplastic anaemia and paroxismal nocturnal haematuria. Idiopathic thrombocy’topoenic purpura shows a decrease of this ration. In chronic myelocytic leukemia and acute lymphocytic leukemia, group 0 has the highest incidence, followed by groups A and B, and group AB has the lowest incidence. Between various diseases, the highest frequency of blood group A was went observed in Hodgkin’s disease, and the lowest in NHL. Group B had highest frequency within PNH patients and the lowest in NHL. Group 0 had the highest In AML patients there is a significant decrease of Rh negative patient 17.15%). The highest incidence of Rh negative was among the SA patients (18.18%) and the lowest in MM (3.70%).

Due to the high prevalence of anthroponotic cutaneous leishmaniosis (ACL) in Barn city, a survey was carried out to determine epidemiological characteristics of ACL in Barn in 1992. For this purpose, 23 out of the total 51 schools (elementary, junior high and senior high) were randomly selected and 6053 students were examined. The prevalence of acute sores and scars were 2% and 17% respectively. A map of the city was prepared, showing the residence of acute cases seen in schools. 3 parts with higher concentration of cases were selected and house - to - house visits were made, examining all age groups. In 2155 persons examined, the prevalence of acute cases was 3.6% and prevalence of scars 26.9%.

In a sand-fly survey, conducted for two years (1992-93) in GhirKarzjn, Fars province a total of 1020 female Phlebotomus keshishiani were dissected, of which 12 females were found to have promastigotes. Promastigotes of six Pb. keshishiani were inoculated to six hamsters and one hamster became infected, Amastigotes were observed in the spleen, but the culture of parasite was not possible due to death of the hamster. Of 141 blood meals tested, 28.5% and 57.7% of Ph. keshishiani were fed on human and dog respectively. This is the first report in the world about the role of Pb. keshishiani as a probable vector of thinfantile type of visceral leishmanjasis.

The main object of this study was to evaluate the treatment of the patients at early stages of nodular form of leishmaniasis by intralesional injection of sodium stibogluconate (Pentostam). The study shows that the method recommended by WHO expert committee gives satisfactory results in nodular form in Iran.

Susceptibility of two wild strains of An. stepliens, collected from Kazeroun (ST-K.Az and Bandar-Abbas (ST-BAN), south of Iran was compared to fenthion, malathion, temephos , pirimiphos, methyk, deltamethrth, DDT dimilin and etopenprox as larvicides in the laboratory. Susceptibility test on the ST-KAZ strain indicated that this strain is susceptible to the named insecticides i.e. the resistance ratios remained between 0.91 to 1.37 folds that of the ST-TEH strain, the susceptible laboratory stock .The ST-BAN strain has the long history of insecticide — application like, DDT, dieldrin, malathion, propoxur, actellic lambdacyhalotith(icon) as adulicides and abate as a larvicide, therefor it showed different pattern of susceptibility to the latter insecticides. The ST-BAN strain showed susceptibility to DDT, deltamethrjn, etofenprox and dimilin, moderately tolerant to fenthion and temephos (i.e.reslstance ratios ranged between 1.67 to 1.75 folds) and tolerant to Pirimiphos~methyl and malathion with resistance ratio of about 2.37 folds , that of the ST-TEH strain. The observer’s tolerance in the ST-DAN strain to Pmmiphos-methyl (actellic) and malathion might be as the result of regular use of adulticides or abate in malaria control programs in south of Iran and develop of cross-tolerance in An.stephensj from Bandar-Abbas south of Iran.
